Your trip to Bonaire

Bonaire

Climate

Temperature

It is always summer on Bonaire. During the day between 30-32 degrees, with a trade wind from the northeast. A completely different heat than in Europe, not as humid as in Asia, but warm enough to take it easy, discover the island and stay on or around the water. In the evenings and nights it is around 25-27 degrees. Sublime to enjoy outside. Good for your body and your head.

Wind

Sometimes there are days or periods when the wind blows less or comes from a different direction. Then you take it easy, turn up the fan a bit, but you mainly go to the water more to swim, snorkel, dive or (kite)surf.

Rain

Sometimes. And when it rains, it is often a heavy shower. Half an hour later you are back in the sun. The temperature remains good. Swimming is nice while it is raining! It rains a bit more between November and March.

What is the best time to visit Bonaire?

You are welcome all year round on Bonaire, the weather and the possibilities to enjoy the island are always about the same. Most people come between December and June.

Are there mosquitoes or crocodiles?

Yes, there are mosquitoes of course. It is warm and we are in the tropics. The apartments are nicely situated in the garden, with sufficient wind on your terrace through beautiful ceiling fans. You can also put on sunscreen. In short, you do not have to worry about mosquitoes. Sunscreen and wind help less against crocodiles, but there was only 1 and also a non-aggressive type.

Which languages?

You can get by very well on the island with Dutch, English and Spanish. Besides Dutch, Papiamentu is the official language.

Transport

Car or scooter

To fully enjoy what Bonaire has to offer, a rental car is highly recommended. Alternatively, a scooter will do just fine. We can arrange both for you!

Public transport

There is no public transport on Bonaire.

Cycling / Mountain biking

Cycling is possible, but not recommended as a means of transport. It is warm, the wind is blowing, the roads are mediocre (getting better) and there are no cycle paths. Mountain biking in various places in nature (cunucu) is possible, if you like that.

Taxi

Taxis are available on the island. #dontdrinkanddrive

Money

You can easily get by with your bank card. Almost all shops and restaurants have a pin machine. Only US$ (American dollars) are accepted as payment on Bonaire. There are enough ATMs. Cash payments are highly appreciated on the island. Leave your Euros at home, you don't have to exchange them on Bonaire.

To dive

Bonaire is the diving island par excellence. You can enter the water from the shore at many beautiful diving spots. This also applies to snorkeling. You will enter the aquarium in amazement every time. Need a good diving school / instructor or tips? We will arrange it.

Bonairean nights

It gets dark between 18:30 and 19:00. The sunsets are beautifully varied and fast. The evenings are sublime and it cools down to 27-29 degrees. Even with the wind, you still don't need a sweater. There are many good restaurants on the island where you can eat beautifully. We can make a reservation for you. Of course you can also just eat on your porch (the terrace of your apartment) or in the garden. Where you can also stay with a book, a drink, your eyes closed or with beautiful stories.
